What is a Home Energy Survey?
A Home Energy Survey is a professional assessment of how efficiently your property uses energy. An assessor inspects the fabric of your home—walls, roof, windows, heating, lighting, and appliances—to identify where heat is being lost and energy is being wasted.
This can be also done with a detailed existing building plan or architect drawings to ensuring new build homes or alterations / extensions are optimized for energy efficiency.
It’s designed to give you a clear picture of your home’s current performance, running costs, and environmental impact.
What is Included in the Report?
After the survey, you’ll receive a detailed Home Energy Report that includes Current Energy Rating showing how efficient your home is today. Your current Energy Use & Costs, current Carbon emissions; your household’s CO₂ footprint.
Key Findings: where energy is being lost or wasted (e.g. poor insulation, old boiler, single glazing).
Practical Recommendations: tailored measures such as loft insulation, draught-proofing, boiler upgrades, or renewable energy options.
We will apply for any available grants on your behalf to help with the cost of any improvements such as solar panels or heat pumps.
Savings Forecast: showing potential reductions in energy bills and carbon emissions if improvements are made.
Why Get a Home Energy Survey?
Cut your energy bills.
Improve comfort and reduce draughts.
Lower your carbon footprint.
Increase property value and meet rental/sale compliance.
How long does the survey take?
Most surveys take between one and three hours on site, depending on the size and complexity of the property. A larger home with multiple heating systems or extensions may take longer. After the visit, the assessor compiles the report, which is usually delivered within 5–10 working days.
What are the benefits of having a Home Energy Survey?
The main benefit is that you receive a clear roadmap to reducing your energy bills and improving comfort. The survey identifies where upgrades will make the biggest difference, helping you prioritise investment. It can also reduce your carbon footprint, increase the value of your property, and ensure compliance with minimum energy standards if you are renting or planning to sell.
Can I use the report to access grants or funding?
Yes. Many government schemes and local authority grants, such as ECO4, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and renewable energy incentives, require evidence of energy performance. A survey provides the documentation and recommendations needed to apply for these schemes.
Will the survey cause any disruption?
No. The process is non-invasive. The assessor will need to look in your loft, check the boiler, and inspect insulation and windows, but there is no drilling or damage to the property. Surveys can be done remotely with detailed building plans including the insulations type and thickness, house wall structure ,window size and type, boiler age and type and a few other details; at a lower cost.
How often should I get a Home Energy Survey?
It is generally recommended to have a survey when you buy a property, before undertaking major renovations, or every 5–10 years to keep up with changes in technology, building standards, and energy costs.
